Dedication of the new Peace Bell

A 6th bell has been cast and added to the existing ring of 5 bells at Cretingham to commemorate the Centenary of the Peace. It has been called the Peace Bell and was dedicated by the Bishop of Dunwich on Sunday 11th November 2018, the bells were rung after the service.

As the town’s Remembrance Parade marched down the High Street, The ringers of Marske-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire rang their eight bells half-muffled in memory of the fallen. After the service and the laying of the wreaths, the bells rang ‘open’ (un-muffled) to celebrate the end of the First World War.

The 8 bells of St Mary’s Church, Woodbridge, Suffolk were rung half muffled before the open air Service on the Market Hill on Remembrance Sunday. BBC Radio Suffolk did an outside broadcast of the proceedings on the day, and included interviews with some of the bellringers taking part.

Five ringers from Marston Magna came to St Mary’s, Mudford to ring half muffled rounds and call changes on the newly tuned and rehung bells before the Armistice Service at 11am. Two ringers returned later and together with the Rector and three learners celebrated the Armistice with open ringing at 12:30.
