1st Canonbie Guides participate in the village Remembrance Services at the war memorial and church annually. This year they were invited to carry out the commemorative bell ringing in the church for 15 minutes at 12:30pm. 4 girls and 2 leaders took part.
A special ring to commemorate the peace; 100 years after the signing of the Armistice that ended the First World War. For our six bells, eight ringers will take turns to ring. This will include one new ringer proudly wearing her ringing badge.

At the church of St Mary Oatlands, Weybridge, we rang the bells half-muffled before the 10.00 am service. The ringers returned at 12.30 pm to ring the bells, open this time, to commemorate one hundred years since the end of the first World War.

At 12.30 on the 11th November the bellringers of Eaton Socon rang the bells open to commemorate the signing of the Armistice one hundred years ago. The ringing included 100 changes of Grandsire Doubles.

St.Michael’s has an ancient Saxon tower, which once housed a fully-ringable peal. To protect the masonry, the six bells were rehung for ‘chiming only’, the bells being stationary. A 6th bell has been cast and added to the existing ring of 5 bells at Cretingham to commemorate the Centenary of the Peace. It has been called the Peace Bell and was dedicated by the Bishop of Dunwich on Sunday 11th November 2018, the bells were rung after the service.
